DPIT tells states ‘not to obstruct, call for closure of food processing units’

NEW DELHI, Mar 25:
The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) on Wednesday issued instructions to the state authorities, ‘not to obstruct and call for the closure of food processing units,’ in view of the 21-day lockdown in the country.
The DPIT said it was very important that they don’t stop the units, as they manufacture food and it was important to maintain the uninterrupted supply for citizens during the lockdown period, announced by the Centre, to curb the spread of Novel Coronavirus outbreak.
The order instructed to allow the workers at the retail outlets, pharmacy and manufacturing units, to travel to their units.
In a statement to all Chief Secretaries of the states and administrators of all UTs, DPIIT Secretary Guruprasad Mohapatra also urged to allow workers and operators at retail outlets, pharmacies and manufacturing units, to travel to their units.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the country is celebrating various festivals across India, when the nation is battling the COVID-19 menace. ”We are celebrating various festivals across India and also the start of a New Year, as per our traditional calendar. Greetings on Ugadi, Gudi Padava, Navreh and Sajibu Cheiraoba. ”May these auspicious occasions bring good health, happiness and prosperity in our lives. We are marking these festivals at a time, when our nation is battling the COVID-19 menace,” Mr Modi tweeted. Electricity, water, home delivery of essential items and emergency services will also remain operational. So, stay at home and stay safe, the Prime Minister added. (UNI)
