JAMMU: Minister for Cooperatives & Ladakh Affairs, Chering Dorjay today attended a programme organized by NGO Sahakar Bharti at Amar Singh Club to celebrate 100th birth anniversary of the founder of the NGO, Lakshman Rao Inamdar and 6th foundation year of Prayas Multi-purpose Cooperative Ltd.
MLA Marh, Sukhnandan Choudhary along with President Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Rakesh Gupta were also present on the occasion.
The Minister congratulated Sahkar Bharti members for the feat and acknowledged the role of NGOs in cooperatives movement.
Underlining the role of NGOs in mobilizing people especially from rural background to form cooperative societies thereby generating employment, the Minister said that the need of the hour is to make the unemployed educated youth aware about the important schemes of the department wherein the NGOs continue to act as last mile link.
Earlier, the NGO gave a brief account of the cooperative movement and informed the Minister about the emerging needs and challenges associated with cooperative functioning.
Minister also released the NGO’s book Sahakar Sandesh on the occasion.
