Donors of Panchayat Ghar land neglected

Should those who braved all threats and hostilities in extending a great help to the Government towards strengthening the Panchayati Raj System by donating their land for construction of Panchayat Ghars across Kashmir valley, be left in the lurch, is a pertinent question especially assuming more importance in the context of ongoing very crucial exercise of elections to the Panchayats in Jammu and Kashmir State.
It is disheartening that the Government has not kept its promises made to such donors who otherwise deserve all sorts of encouragement, which has resulted in their disillusionment and dejection. Rural Development Department reveals that as many as 250 people donated their land for construction of Panchayat Ghars in their respective villages in Kashmir valley to home the offices of Panchs and Sarpanchs to deal with issues of local governance but these donors have neither been provided any employment nor any compensation so far. We would not go in for citing individual cases but there are instances where donors have parted with their prized land even of the area of over one kanal for the purpose but the Government appears to have deserted and abandoned them. This is, we are afraid, a simple unintentional betrayal and is tantamount to leaving them high and dry. We expect the Government to look into the problem urgently on priority.
