JAMMU, July 12: A book of Dogri poetry ‘Hirdyegat’ written by T R Magotra ‘Sagar’ was released today by Dogri Sanstha Jammu in an online function.
Prof Lalit Magotra, President of Dogri Sanstha Jammu presided over this ceremony. The book is a collection of 101 poems of the author containing songs, ghazals and bhajans.
Prof Veena Gupta, Vice-President of Dogri Sanstha Jammu and former Head of Department of Dogri in Jammu University, read a scholarly paper on the released book, highlighting the salient qualities of the poems contained in the book.
Prof Lalit Magotra, in his presidential remarks, appreciated T R Magotra ‘Sagar’ for his contribution to Dogri literature by penning down seven books in Dogri which include collections of poems and certain aspects of history. Prof Magotra said that two dominant themes of the poems of released book are the praise of the creator and worthlessness of worldly possessions and riches. He pointed out that one of the characteristics of Duggar region is its religiosity. “Dogras are dominantly religious people in nature and the Duggarland is known to be the abode of many goddesses and local deities. In that sense the bhajans and prayers of gods in the released book represent the local ethos. Devotion to God naturally leads to a sense of renunciation for the worldly goods, as is depicted in many of the poems of the book,” he said.
Earlier, the author of the book, recited some of the compositions from the book and expressed his gratitude to Sanstha for releasing his book.
At the start of the program, Dr Chanchal Bhasin, Secretary Dogri Sanstha Jammu, laid stress on the usefulness and the immense success of the online literary programs being held by Dogri Sanstha Jammu.
The technical support to the whole preceding was efficiently provided by Pawan Verma.
