SAMBA, June 7: District Administration in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Language today organized a Dogri Kavyitri Sammelan at Government Higher Secondary School Sumb.
MLA Samba, Dr Devender Kumar Manyal was the chief guest on the occasion and District Development Commissioner, Sheetal Nanda was the guest of honour.
Dogri poems on varied challenges faced by women folk were recited in the event which covered the issues of female feticide, declining sex ratio and women empowerment.
Many famous Dogri poetesses like Renu Padha, Usha Rani, Ahaliya Sambyal, Tulsi Sharma, Ganga Sharma, Dr Chanchal Bhasin, Vijay Thakur and others from Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Language participated in the Dogri Kavyitri Sammelan.
A short skit on the topic “Barat Nahi Ayegi”, produced and directed by Reeta Jitender and Rajneesh Kumar Gupta was also performed by Viraj Kala Kendar which showcased the struggles of women in India.
Later, the daughters of Samba who had excelled in their respective fields and had achieved success were felicitated by the District Administration. Those who were felicitated were Anjali Sharma, Director Radio Kashmir Jammu, Prof Sneh Sambyal, Krishna Sambyal, Kanchan Bala, KAS and Lovely Sharma, Incharge Bharat Scouts and Guides, Samba. Besides, eight meritorious girls of Higher Secondary School, Sumb were also felicitated on the occasion.
MLA Samba announced a grant of Rs 10 lakh from his constituency development funds for Government Higher Secondary School Samba. He also announced eight ceiling fans for the school.
ADDC Vivek Sharma, ADC Tilak Raj Sharma, District Social Welfare Officer Mushtaq Chowdhary, Tehsildar, BDO Sumb, Tripta Sharma, Executive Engineer PDD, Principal GHSS Sumb, BMO Sumb, CDPO Samba, other Sectoral Officers, students of GHSS Sumb were present on the occasion.
