JAMMU, Sept 20: For the first time in the history two representative folk performing traditions of Jammu & Kashmir ‘Jagarna’ (Dogri) and ‘Bhumro’ (Kashmiri)  will feature at the historic Trafalgar Square, London on October 16, 2016.
Fifty thousand world audiences are expected to witness and enjoy these two vibrant folk presentations. Giving details, Regional Director of ICCR Jammu and Kashmir, Balwant Thakur, informed that history is being created by showcasing the rich cultural diversity of the State of Jammu and Kashmir.
ICCR in association with Jammu & Kashmir Festival Trust, London, is holding series of performances in London as a part of Jammu & Kashmir festival. A fifteen member group of artists is leaving for London on October 14, 2016 to mesmerize the world audience with the unparallel cultural diversity of Jammu & Kashmir. A unique programme has been conceptualized by Balwant Thakur himself which has been entitled as ‘Celebrating Diversity’.
The programme ‘Celebrating Diversity’ is a unique cultural album of Jammu and Kashmir showcasing the variegated variety of different colours, rhythms, costumes, design patterns and artistic expressions through the dances of J&K. This amazing bouquet of rarest dance traditions beautifully unfolds the mesmerizing artistic traditions of this part of the world.
Featuring spectacular performing traditions of Kashmiri, Dogri, Ladakhi, Gojri, Pahari, Balti and Bhaderwahi, this unique programme is being planned to feature Trafalgar Square in addition to Nehru Centre, Embassy of India, London, and two programmes each at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, West Kensington, and House of Commons, Westminster, London.
The hosts ‘Jammu & Kashmir Festival Trust’ is an initiative of Lakshmi Kaul, Manu Khajuria, Manish Tiwari and Lalit Sharma. The Jammu-Kashmir Festival Trust has been set up to organise, curate and implement the Jammu and Kashmir Festival by representatives of the communities from the Jammu and Kashmir regions.
