Doctors threaten indefinite strike for release of arrested medico

Srinagar, May 20: Doctors Association Kashmir has threatened to launch indefinite strike if the arrested doctor is not released by police by tomorrow.
DAK spokesman, Dr Suhail Naik, said described continued detention of their president by police as unfortunate and condemnable as his continued detention is affecting patient care at SMHS Hospital.
Dr Naik said Dr Nissarul Hassan is Associate professor at Medical College and there are large numbers of patients under his supervision.
Dr Hassan was arrested by police on Monday from the SMHS Hospital while he was attending to his patients.
The spokesperson has appealed doctors to shut routine work in all hospitals for one hour from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, but continue work in emergencies, critical care units and operation theaters so that common people do not suffer.
Dr Naik warned State Government that if Dr Hassan is not released by tomorrow, we will be forced to shut the emergency services also and State Government will be responsible for the consequences.
Meanwhile, Coaching Centres Association (CCA) of Kashmir has strongly condemned the arrest of Dr. Nisarul Hassan, who is the president Doctors Association of Kashmir (DAK).
CCA chairman G N Var termed it as victimization of professional cadre in the State and said that the Government is targeting him for his stand against injustice.
Var said the arrest of Dr Nisar has created a fear psychosis among people as it has been done just when a new Government has come to power at New Delhi.
The association demanded an immediate release of incarcerated Dr Nisar.
