Srinagar, Feb 18: In a first-of-its-kind case at the Government Medical College (GMC), Anantnag, a doctor from the ENT Department today removed a large “snake-like” worm from the nostril of a 12-year-old boy.
Hailing from Banihal, the boy’s parents brought him to the MMABM Associated Hospital, GMC Anantnag, after noticing a tail-like object protruding from one of his nostrils.
“The parents had observed that their child had been growing weaker over the past several months. This morning, they noticed a tail-like object in one of his nostrils, which made them anxious,” said Dr. Showkat Shifa, media coordinator at GMC Anantnag.
He added that upon arrival at the ENT Department, the resident doctor, Dr. Kishan, examined the patient and identified a large worm inside his nostril.
“The matter was discussed with the Head of the Department, and it was decided to proceed with suction. Following the procedure, a snake-like worm was removed from the boy’s nostril,” he said.
The spokesperson further stated that the specimen has been preserved and will be sent to a forensic laboratory to determine its exact nature.
“After that, we will conduct further analysis, as such a case has never been reported at GMC Anantnag before.”
Principal and Dean of GMC Anantnag, Professor Dr. Rukhsana Najeeb, has lauded the ENT Department for its dedicated service to the community and its commitment to patient care.
