Officials told Excelsior that, following directions from senior officials in the Health & Medical Education (H&ME) Department, a team has been constituted to investigate the matter.
“We have formed a team tasked with verifying the claims. Necessary action will be taken if the allegations are proven,” officials said.
Sources said that, acting on official directives, a team from the Health Department visited the hospital and collected relevant records.
“They have taken the records for further inquiry. The police have also launched an investigation into the matter,” sources said.
Earlier, a family alleged that a doctor-who is accused of having a questionable track record in medical practice-at the private hospital performed an unnecessary hysterectomy instead of the intended ENT surgery.
However, the family has since backtracked on its accusations, refusing to comment further.
Initially, the patient’s attendants had claimed that the woman was taken to the operation theatre for an ENT procedure but later discovered that a doctor had mistakenly performed a hysterectomy, removing her uterus.
While the hospital has denied the allegations, and initially, allegedly attempted to hide the ‘goof up’, the family had also claimed that no prior tests or ultrasounds were conducted to justify such a drastic procedure, leaving them confused about what actually happened.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with calls for a lifetime ban on the doctor’s private practice, if found guilty.
Locals have demanded strict action against the doctor, highlighting the lack of supervision in private medical facilities, often leading to such incidents.
