DM Shopian seals 9 JeI properties; bans usage

Srinagar, Nov 10 : Authorities in Kashmir today sealed nine properties including a school building belonging to banned Jamaat-e-Islami.
The District Magistrate Shopian in a notification ordered ban on entry and usage of these properties including a newly constructed school building belonging to Jamaat-e-Islami following communication by State Investigation Agency (SIA).
The directions were issued by District Magistrate Shopian, Sachin Kumar Vaishya, under Section 8 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 and these properties were sealed.

“The State Investigation Agency, Kashmir vide communication No. SIA/FIR-17-19/22/7010-14; dated: 05.11.2022 has intimated that during investigation of case FIR No. 17/2019 u/s 10, 11 & 13 UA(P) Act of Police Station Batamaloo now being investigated by P/S SIA, nine properties have surfaced that are owned by and under possession of banned association Jamaat-e-Islami and are located in the jurisdiction of district Shopian and are to be notified in terms of section 8 UA(P) Act,” the DM Shopian said in a notification issued today.
The notification read that the property has been sealed, and entry and usage of the properties are not permitted. “These premises or structures have been sealed and entry and usage have been prohibited,” read the notification. Besides “Red entry” to this effect has been made in the relevant revenue records.
“To choke the availability of funds for secessionist activities and to dismantle the ecosystem of anti-national elements and terror networks hostile to India’s sovereignty, the properties belonging or held by banned Jamaat-e-Islami J-K in District Shopian of South Kashmir have been notified by District Magistrate Shopian vide notification dated July 7, 2022, followed by administrative order in the exercise of the power conferred by Section 8 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 and notification dated February 28, 2019 of Union Ministry of Home Affairs,” it read.
The properties include land measuring 2 kanals 15 marla in village Batpora in the name of JeI through its Ameer-e-Zilla Abdul Hameed of Nadigam Shopian, 7 marlas in same village in the name of Ameer-e-Zilla Shahzada Aurangzeb, 7 marla 3 sarsai, also in village Batpora in the name of Aurangzeb, 16 marla in the same and in the name of same person, under-construction building over land 1 kanal and 7 marla in Batpora in the name of same person, 17 marlas through its Ameer-e-Zilla Mohammad Sultan of Nownagari Tral, 17 marla in village Heepora, Batagund in the name of Ameer-e-Zilla Shahzada Aurangzeb, 2 storeyed yet to be functional School building over land measuring 1 kanal and 8 marla in village Bongam in the name of Iqra Public School through Falah-i-Aam Trust, Shopian  and four storeyed building over land measuring 4 marlas and  2 marlas in village Kanipora/Batpora.
“On perusal of the records and other connected documents, I, District Magistrate Shopian, am satisfied that there is sufficient material to notify (these) properties under the Act”, the notification read.
By virtue of notification issued by the Central Government coupled with notification issued by the J&K Government and powers vested in him in terms of section 8 of UA(P) Act, the District Magistrate ordered restriction on these nine properties by any person(s), association(s) or legal entity other than investigating officers of SIA for the purpose of investigation and police officers having jurisdiction for the purpose of enforcing the usage related prohibition and restrictions.
The SIA has identified as many as 188 JeI properties across Jammu and Kashmir which are to be notified during the further course of action to be undertaken.
