RAJOURI, May 18: As the country is under lockdown due to COVID-19 crisis and the women in the far flung areas don’t have any access to the basic hygienic products, District Level Centre for Women (DLCW) has taken an initiative to distribute sanitary pads, antiseptic soaps and other hygienic products among girls and women in district Rajouri.
The initiative was taken on the directions of District Development Commissioner, Mohd Nazir Sheikh and under the supervision of DSEO and Nodal officer of MSK Rajouri, Bilal Rashid Mir.
Anum Mirza, Women Welfare Officer, Union Ministry of Women & Child Development, along with her team comprising District Coordinators, Sanjana Thakur and Nazma Sheikh, has been at the forefront since lockdown and provided women in the far flung rural areas with free sanitary napkins and other hygienic products.
The demand of sanitary napkins by the team was felt earlier during this month when it was imparting awareness on COVID-19 by distributing masks and sanitizers in these areas and it was impressed upon them that due to COVID-19 crisis, the women in the far flung areas require sanitary napkins which are either unavailable or unaffordable to the women and using unhygienic cloth can cause infection to them.
While distributing these sanitary products to women, Anum Mirza said that the women in rural areas have struggled to gain access to the basic menstrual hygienic products may be due to unavailability in these times or due to unaffordability. The team stepped in with this initiative and distributed free sanitary pads and other products to the women in need, she added. By improving health conditions and hygiene among women, a healthier and brighter India can be made, she reiterated.
Besides this distribution, DLCW team also imparted awareness to girls and women related to menstrual hygiene and about the reproductive tract infections during menstruation times.
