Divisional status for Ladakh

Sir,
This has reference to the news item ‘Ladakh deserves divisional status’ DE July 6. Ladakh has remained a neglected part of the State. Though  topography and geography of the region have contributed their bit in keeping Ladakh undeveloped, the successive governments too have been insensitive to the needs of the region.
The region despite being the biggest in area never  attracted the attention of the helsmen for reasons better known to the authorities.
The region is educationally and economically backward. No industrial set up has come here to boost the economy of the region and provide employment opportunities to unemployed whose number is on the rise.
It is after coming into existence of LAHDC (S) – Leh and Kargil that the region assumed to have some identity of its own, and is witnessing developmental activities on a small scale. But it is still bereft of the development that is  witnessed in Jammu and Kashmir regions.
Therefore a divisional status to Ladakh should not be denied to the region.
Yours etc….
