SRINAGAR, Mar 1: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon today called for proper disposal of solid waste in the Srinagar City and asked officials of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) to find an alternative space for further disposal of waste in addition to Achen dumping site.
Dr. Samoon said this while reviewing sanitation measures being taken by SMC in Srinagar. He asked the Commissioner SMC Bashir Ahmad Khan to take concerted efforts to make Srinagar city clean and ensure hygienic atmosphere in the city. The meeting was also attended by all ward and sanitation officers of SMC.
Stressing on the need to segregate waste before its disposal, the Divisional Commissioner asked officials to distribute separate dustbins to the households for bio-degradable and non-biodegradable waste so that it makes segregation easy.
The Divisional Commissioner directed the SMC to start sweeping and collecting garbage early in the morning to avoid inconvenience to people. On the occasion Commissioner SMC informed the Divisional Commissioner that there are 300 vacancies of sweepers in the Corporation and same will be filled soon.
The Divisional Commissioner directed the authorities of SMC to ensure the building permission is given within 15 days so that general public is not affected by the undue delays. He asked SMC to strictly follow the building permission rules and issue permissions strictly under the act.
Dr. Samoon also directed Commissioner SMC to conduct fortnightly meetings with the ward officers for effective functioning of the administration.
He further directed SMC to launch special drive against encroachment of footpaths in the city.
While expressing concern over the use of polythene in Kashmir, the Divisional Commissioner called for taking concrete measures to deal with the issue. He also asked SMC to make all the street lights functional and use energy saver led lights for street lights.
