JAMMU, July 18: Divisional Commissioner, Sanjeev Verma today chaired a meeting of Deputy Commissioners to review the action plan for restoration of traditional water bodies and creation of new water bodies in the districts.
The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Dr Tahir Firdous and other concerned, while Deputy Commissioners of Jammu division along with other concerned officers participated in the meeting through video conferencing.
The Divisional Commissioner enquired from the DCs about action taken by their respective district administrations for conservation and preservation of water bodies.
The DCs apprised the Div Com about the total number of water bodies identified in their respective districts for restoration. It was informed that district administrations have already identified water bodies/ponds for restoration in the villages/ Panchayats of their respective districts. Besides the DCs also informed that many ponds have already been restored and work on others is in progress. It was also informed that the DCs have convened meetings of stakeholders and constituted committees for formulating the action plans and execution of work for the preservation conservation of water bodies.
The Divisional Commissioner directed the DCs to formulate a comprehensive plan for restoration of existing water bodies, besides developing new water bodies in the districts on priority. He also asked them to plant trees in the catchment area of ponds for their protection.
The Divisional Commissioner also directed the DCs to fence the vacant government land available in their respective districts and develop orchards with priority to local fruits.
Meanwhile, the Divisional Commissioner sought details from DCs regarding issuance of Domicile certificates in their districts.
The Div Com asked DCs to expedite the process and submit report in his office regarding issuance of domicile certificates on a regular basis.
