SRINAGAR, Nov 27: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon today issued travel advisories and asked people to desist from travelling to some of South and North Kashmir districts and also to the Ladakh division on November 29 as the Meteorological Department has forecast for snowfall on that day.
Deputy Commissioners of Anantnag, Kupwara, Bandipora and Shopian have been asked to remain alert following the forecast of moderate to heavy snowfall in the higher reaches of these districts. Instructions have also been issued to the Sub-Divisional Magistrates and traffic police authorities in order to ensure that no casualty takes place on November 29.
Dr. Samoon has also ordered for the suspension of traffic on the Mughal Road asking people not to travel on this road that connects the Kashmir valley with Jammu division via Rajouri and Poonch. He asked people not to take any chance on this day adding that the restrictions on the travel movement have been issued for the benefit of the public.
Dr. Samoon said that movement of vehicles would be restricted on Kargil-Zanskar, Srinagar-Zojila-Kargil, Kupwara-Machil/Tangdhar, Anantnag-Simthan-Kishtwar and Bandipora-Gurez roads. He said the traffic movement on the Shopian-Mughal road would also be suspended as a precautionary measure.
Meanwhile, after a brief lull Kashmir witnessed a chilly night as the mercury plummeted below the freezing point at all the important locations. Srinagar recorded the day temperature of 16.1 degrees Celsius while as the minimum temperature was minus 1.7 degrees Celsius.
The Met office has forecast that light rain/snow may occur at higher reaches of Kashmir and Ladakh regions. The office said that maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 12 degrees Celsius and one degree Celsius respectively in the Srinagar city.
