JAMMU, Feb 17: In order to generate awareness about electoral systems and to encourage voters to polling under ‘Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme of the Election Commission of India, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Shantmanu today inaugurated Campaign and YUVA Show (Youth Unite for Voter Awareness) at Government College for Women Gandhi Nagar Jammu. The campaign has been launched in District Jammu by District Election Officer Jammu (Deputy Commissioner Jammu) Ajeet Kumar Sahu under overall supervision of Chief Electoral Officer J&K and under guidance of Election Commission of India.
The slogan of the campaign is Chalo Youth to the Booth.
The objective of the campaign is to increase awareness and imparting education on electoral process amongst youth under Youth Unite for Voter Awareness (YUVA).
Speaking on the occasion, Divisional Commissioner asked the youth to exercise their right to vote which is their fundamental right to uphold and strengthen the democratic setup of our nation which is world’s biggest democratic sovereignty. He appealed the eligible voters to caste their vote as a social responsibility for making India a strong nation besides protecting national values like secularism and pluralism in our country. He said that voting is not merely civic duty but a social good and an emphatic declaration of being a part of the community.
Divisional Commissioner also launched website www.wakeupjammu.com for Wake up Jammu Campaign.
Deputy Commissioner said that Wake up Jammu comes with the message that the youth should now get united and spread message in the society about the value of ethical voting which is this year’s theme for election. He further informed that such awareness campaigns would also be launched at GDC Akhnoor on 19th February, GDC Bishnah on 21st February, GDC R.S. Pura on 25th February, Government Women Polytechnic Jammu on 3rd March, MIET Bhalwal on 6th March, Parade on 8th March and at Jammu University on March 10, 2014 respectively.
He further informed that photo collection campaign would be organized on February 18,19, 20 in Gandhi Nagar, Jammu East and West Constituency targeting the voters without photographs in the electoral roll.
Among others, ADC Jammu Sushma Chauhan, Principal of the college Kiran Bakshi, ACD Jammu K. K. Sidha, Deputy Director Information Jammu Jyoti Salathia, IAS UT Dr. Piyush Singla, Eminent Theatre Director Balwant Thakur besides prominent citizens and students in large number were present.
