SRINAGAR, Mar 4: A 3-day exhibition “Mystic Weaves” organized by the Handloom Department to add a new dimension to the marketing of handloom items of the State was inaugurated by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Rohit Kansal at Nigeen Club here.
The objective of the exhibition is to promote the Kashmiri handicrafts known for its intricate designing and craftsmanship and to provide a platform to the weavers from the various clusters operated by the department under Centrally sponsored scheme Integrated Handloom Development Scheme to showcase their skills and generate marketing opportunities.
A buyer-seller meet was also organized on the sidelines of the exhibition and a number of stalls have been set up showcasing exquisite handloom products by the weavers.
Addressing the gathering, Mr Kansal said that handicrafts of Kashmir are globally renowned for their intricate weaving and artistry. He said that some unscrupulous elements are damaging reputation of Kashmiri handicrafts and handloom items, which need to be checked. He urged the weavers to use good quality raw material in handloom products to enhance its demand in global market.
