JAMMU, Jan 12: Department of Tourism organized 2-day Lohri Festival at Bagh-e-Bahu here today with the collaboration of various Business Associations to showcase the cultural heritage of Jammu.
Divisional Commissioner Jammu Shantmanu was the chief guest who inaugurated the Lohri Festival with the lighting of auspicious lamp.
While speaking on the occasion, he said that organizing such type of events showcase the unique cultural ethos and heritage of Jammu besides promoting cultural tourism in the State.
Other attractions of Lohri Festival were ethnic food stalls, cultural show with Chajja dance, playing dandia and illumination of Bagh-e-Bahu.
On January 13, the procession will be flagged off from Sabzi Mandi Chowk Parade and it will culminate at Raghunath Bazar. The main attraction of the procession will be Dhol, Narsingha, Chajja, Haran and Kudd Dance and scholars from Sanskrit Vidyalaya, Birpur reciting Sanskrit hymns.
Prizes for the best three decorated shops at Raghunath Bazar will also be given by Tourism Department.
Among others, MLA Gandhi Nagar Constituency Kavinder Gupta, Commissioner Secretary Horticulture Sanjeev Verma, Director Tourism Jammu, R. K. Varma, Joint Director Tourism Jammu, Narupa Rai, Deputy Director Tourism Jammu Vinakshi Koul, besides Ravi Mahajan, Chairman Paryatan Vikas Mandal, Captain Atul Gaur, Chairman IATO Jammu Chapter and V. K. Sehgal, President Tourism Promotion Council were also present on the occasion.
