SWD celebrates Louis Braille Day

JAMMU, Jan 4: Department of Social Welfare Jammu, today celebrated 211th birth anniversary of Louis Braille the “Messiah of the Blind” here at residential school for Blind Roop Nagar Jammu.
The day is celebrated across the globe to mark the birth anniversary of Louis Braille, who invented the Braille script, which is used by the sightless/ specially abled persons for learning i.e reading and writing.
The Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Sanjeev Verma was the chief guest on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the Div Com emphasized on the need to provide best possible facilities to the specially abled persons for their holistic development and stressed on the development of suitable infrastructural facilities for their assimilation in the society. He urged upon the audience to develop empathy towards specially able persons. He appreciated the role of Social Welfare Department for providing the best education and other facilities to the inmates of the Residential School.
Director General, Social Welfare Department, Rehana Batul apprised about the various schemes launched by the Government for the dignified living of the specially abled people especially the sightless.
District Social Welfare Officer Jammu, Ajay Salaan also apprised about the various achievements of the inmates of the Residential School for the Blinds Jammu. He further informed that the intake capacity of the RSFB has been increased from 25 to 50 inmates and efforts are being made to ensure that benefits of various schemes and programmes to reach the specially able persons.
The children of the participating school and other artists showcased their talents and mesmerized the audience with their performances.  The achievers and performers of the Residential School who have excelled in various field like sports, music, academics art and culture were also facilitated on the occasion.
Among others Director General, Women and Child Development, Mir Tariq Ali, Director Finance Social Welfare Department, Abdul Majid, Additional Secretary to the Government Social Welfare, Babu Ram, Deputy Director Social Welfare, Afsan Masood, Assistant Director Social Welfare, Ranbireshwar Singh, AD Schemes, Kailash Devi and other officers of the department were present on the occasion.
To promote the Duggar traditional cultural of J&K, Bhartiya Lok Sangeet Kala Sangeet Sansthan celebrated 211th birthday century of world renowned personality Louis Braille and staged 294th Saturday series Dogri Musical Play Netar Dan Sab Cha Mahan today in close coordination with Sangamtru Art Production at Durga Bhawan, Janipur, Jammu.
The programme was inaugurated by V.K. Magotra, former Regional Director, Directorate of Field Publicity, Government of India. Among the guest of honours were Dr.Tara Singh Charak, Former Deputy Director, Health Department, J&K Government, Sajjad Poonchi, president All India Cultural Association, Poonch J&K, Master Kartar Chand, renowned awardee Singer of J&K, Dr.Anju Dogra, Registrar SMGS Hospital J&K Government.
