Div Com, Drug Controller flag off rally against drug abuse

JAMMU, June 24: Hundreds of people including students from various educational institutions participated in a rally against drug abuse that was flagged off today jointly by Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar and State Drug Controller Lotika Khajuria.
The rally was organized by Drugs & Food Control Organization to raise awareness among the people against drug abuse and illegal trafficking. Dr Salim-ur-Rehman, (Director, Health Services, Jammu), Poornima Kaboo DDC (I&L) Jammu, Farida Parveen DDC (Jammu), Sanjeev Gupta (Deputy Commissioner, Food Safety, Jammu), Mohd Iqbal Palla ADC (Jammu) and many other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
Top brass of the Divisional Administration, officers of Drugs & Food Control Organization along with prominent citizens, NGO’s , college students, students from para-medical colleges and members of trade associations participated in the rally that was taken out from Mahajan Central Sabha, Shalamar and after passing through various bazaars and prominent chowks culminated back at Shalamar Chowk.
Participants were holding colourful banners and placards in their hands with messages against substance abuse and raised slogans against this social evil and pledged to join their hands to eradicate this menace from society.
Divisional Commissioner Jammu while addressing the participants appealed the general public to join hands in fighting the abuse of drug & related substances and eliminate this social evil from the society to make India a healthy nation.
Lotika Khajuria sought the urgent attention of the stakeholders towards this social evil and informed that the Government has initiated pro active measures in this behalf by constituting Divisional Level Monitoring Committee to bring an end to this menace and rehabilitate the affected youth.
Similar messages and slogans were delivered by other experts like Dr Salim-ur-Rehman, Dr Manu Arora (HoD Psychiatric), Dr Gurmeet Kour (Nodal Officer, Mental Health Diseases), etc. They emphasized the need for a coordinated effort in fighting this menace.
Speaking on the occasion, Mohd Iqbal Palla, ADC (Jammu) informed that a similar programme has been organized in the holy city of Katra tomorrow to propagate message against drug abuse.
