Distt Admn seeks 4-day time; protest at Mandi, Chandak

RAJOURI, Feb 11: Hundreds of people from Budhal area in over 80 vehicles marched towards Rajouri town to storm district headquarter and launch indefinite dharna outside the office of  Dy Commissioner but they were halted near Kotranka by senior officers of the Administration seeking 4-day’s time.
The people continued their protest on Rajouri-Budhal road for over three hours causing disruption in movement of traffic. ADC Salim Malik and ASP Rajouri Shiv Kumar Chouhan intercepted along with police force at Faiza Morh about 3 kms from Kotranka and persuaded them to return to their homes, seeking four day’s time for redressal of their  demand of tehsil status for Budhal.
Earlier, the people marching towards Rajouri were stopped at Kandi by local police but the people were in large number and they broke barricades and moved ahead. Then they were stopped at Faiza Morh by strong contingent led by ASP Rajouri. But officers did not use any force and harsh language but pleaded the villagers to cooperate with them as their concern has been conveyed by the DC to the Government. They said now Government has to take decision in this regard. They sought four days time and said that they would take up the case again. Then they returned at around 3.30 pm by spending nearly five hours on the road. These people are on protest and fast unto death since February 2 demanding Tehsil status.
Meanwhile, protest at Chandak in Poonch continued in support of public demand of tehsil status. The people closed Jammu-Poonch road for about two hours  and disrupted movement of traffic. In Mandi area of  Poonch, the people from Bedar held strong protest seeking their alliance with Mandi  tehsil and not Saujian which was newly declared as tehsil. They said Mandi was just 3 kms away while Saujina 13 kms from their village. They blocked road for about four hours and held protest against local MLA and the Government.  The protest at Dharamsal in Kalakote and and Devak in Sunderbani also continued in support of the tehsil status.
Yet another report from Doda said that people of Chinta in Bhaderwah have also launched protest seeking tehsil status for the area. They said that it was an old Niabat and deserves tehsil status. They criticized the CSC and Chief Minster for the neglect of the area.
