This has reference to the news item Billawar Bani-Basohli deliberately denied district status. DE Dec 5, 2014.
It is quite dismaying that a historical town like Basohli has become a victim of politics. The area which was once famous for world known Basohli paintings, and shawls, architecture has been neglected with regard to development by successive Governments.
During the previous PDP Congress led Government many new district were created, but it was neglected on flimsy ground. Political parties have been, time and again, assuring people to grant district status to the region but no one has come with concrete planning so far. This time also the same thing is repeated to lure voters but people do not expect any thing concrete from them.
It would be better if these parties lived by their promise and grant district status to Basohli. This will help Basohli to regain its past glory and charm. Besides it is expected that old tradition, art and culture would come alive again.
The new political dispensation, it is hoped would look into the matter at the earliest.
