KATHUA, Sept 8: The district administration which had suspended the demolition of a shopping and housing complex at Chak near Nagri road yesterday by sealing the seven shops only in view of doctors advisory not to touch the building where a newly born baby with her mother were putting up, this afternoon resumed the drive by demolishing the portion of the shopping complex and building.
A team of district administration, JMC officials and Police along with two JCPs reached the spot this afternoon to start the demolition. The team was headed by Additional DC Kathua, Gyansham Singh who was accompanied by tehsildar Kathua and officials of MC Kathua and police reinforcement.
The team launched the demolition drive by dismantling the pillars and shutters of the seven shops first. The District Development Commissioner, Dr Raghav Langer also reached the spot to supervise the drive himself.
The family which was putting up in the building as tenants had left in the morning apprehending problems after water and power connection to building was snapped yesterday.
However the demolition drive was suspended in the evening following darkness and the same would be resumed in the morning again, the official sources said. The building and shopping complex was constructed by Rajinder Singh (Bubby) after encroaching one Kanal of State land 15 years back. But the district administration which has launched a drive to vacate the State land from mafia had earlier served notice to him to vacate the State land but he failed to comply the orders forcing the administration to launch the demolition drive yesterday, official sources added.
