Sir,
It is a sad state of affairs when news with regard to harrassment of old aged people surfaces on newspapers day in and day out. Extending care and love to senior citizens is a practice we find in most oriental homes. In modern age many of us do not have time to take care of our elders at home. We have forgotten to sit with them and speak warm words. Spending time with the elderly people helps us in adding our knowledge and experience and therefore is very important. We now neglect to do it because of our busy schedule and work stress mostly. It is true to say that elders feel neglected, lonely and often hurt at home.
The loneliness and health problems often anger them and as such start behaving abnormally at times. They even go to the extent of non cooperation, become stubborn and perturbed. The fault here is not theirs but it is a result of immediate happening that forces them to respond that way. In order to keep them happy and healthy, giving them love and respect is the only way for the affection and love they have given us in our childhood. This is the way we can show our gratitude for them. It is necessary to create an atmosphere of poise in the family so that our elders feel comfortable. Senior citizens are the assests in a living society and ignoring them is unfortunate.
Yours etc…
S N Raina
