Sir,
The direction of the High Court to the DMD (Disaster Management Deptt) is a move to be welcomed, but the casual attitude of Govt to risk preparedness is more worrisome. Given the repetitive occurrence of natural disasters in India like the Gujarat earthquake, Tsunami, Uttarakhand tragedy and the recently flooded districts of Assam; the Disaster Prevention and Preparedness is an issue to be addressed to the nation as a whole. With India adopting the “Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction” from 2015, to what extent it is implemented, one does not! Why is it there is no Disaster Plan ? How much more life and property is to be lost, before we can have an operational “NDRF (National Disaster Response Force)”?
It’s time to think that natural disasters are inevitable and a lot of lives could be saved if there is enough disaster preparedness.
Yours etc…
