Directorate of SSA focusing on 39799 out of school children

JAMMU, Sept 9: Five day workshop for review and revision of Non-Residential Bridge Course (NRBC) material came to an end in the Directorate of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan today.
During the workshop, the bridge course books (for level I, II & III) developed and published around seven years back were revised with a view to bring the level of the books in conformity with the textbooks from class 1st to 7th prescribed by J&K Board of School Education (JKBOSE) and also within the ambit of National Curriculum Framework-2005.
The bridge course books will be provided to out of school children during their training which is being conducted with a view to mainstreaming them in the age appropriate classes in regular schools. In J&K, there are 39799 number of out of schools children who have to be mainstreamed in the coming year. Out of these, 27669 students have never attended formal schooling whereas 12130 have left formal schools due to one or the other reason.
Subject experts from NCERT, Prof Vardhe Mohan Nikalji (English) and Prof T P Sharma (Mathematics) participated in the workshop along-with experts from College of Education Srinagar; J&K Board of School Education (JKBOSE); State Institute of Education (SIE) Kashmir and Jammu; DIETs (Beerwah, Jammu, Rajouri & Kathua); Govt Schools and representatives of NGOs such as ASW, Bandipora; NCLP Udhampur and Aradana, Jammu.
State Project Director, SSA/RMSA, Saugat Biswas had inaugurated the workshop on September 5 and set the tone for the participants to prepare the bridge course books in conformity with the textbooks prescribed by Board of School Education and keeping in view NCF-2005.
