JAMMU, Feb 16: To underline the importance of Media in unearthing social evils in society, Anand Jain, Director, Anti-Corruption Bureau, Jammu and Kashmir, delivered keynote lecture to the students of the new Department of Journalism and Media Studies, University of Jammu.
While speaking on the topic, “Role of Media and issue of Social Corruption,” Jain emphasized the importance of the media’s ability to change perceptions, norms and behaviour which is at the core of their relevance for the fight against corruption.
He said that Departmental Vigilance Officers have become an important interface between organizations and Anti-Corruption Bureau which has led to transparency in the latter’s functioning. While quoting real-time experiences, Director, ACB said that the civil society has, over the period, evolved and with the intervention of technology, Anti-Corruption Bureau has made a user-friendly website, whereat one can file a complaint online and can see the status of his complaint(s) online. He further mentioned that ACB is planning to introduce many more measures to make the system more transparent and vibrant.
Prof Manoj Kumar Dhar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu, in his presidential address, said that the real-time examples and experiences of Jain followed by a question and answer session made today’s session very interactive and fruitful. Prof Dhar also complimented Prof Shyam Narayan Lal, Head, Department of Journalism and Media Studies and Dr Vinay Thusoo, Coordinator, Journalism and Media Studies for bringing the best of the experts in their respective areas ever since the inception of the Department.
He further reiterated that the new Department has come up to meet the long-cherished demand of the youth of Jammu and civil society and thus there are enormous expectations from the department.
Earlier, Prof Shyam Narayan Lal, Head, Department of Journalism and Media Studies, reiterated his commitment to making the department the best in the country. Dr Vinay Thusoo, Coordinator, Department of Journalism and Media Studies and Departmental Vigilance Officer delivered vote of thanks.
