Expressing concern over the escalation of tension between India and Pakistan along the borders, PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today said violence has already caused much damage to the State and its people.
Urging both the neighbouring countries to work towards building peaceful borders, he said the plight of the civilian population uprooted on either side has caused a humanitarian crisis and the situation needs to be contained before it resulting in more damage and destruction.
Mr Sayeed said in a statement that the sustenance of ceasefire along the border from 2003 had brought back peace into the lives of border residents from Kathua to Kargil, and had a positive impact on the relationship between the two countries and atmosphere of hope was generated within the State as well.
The PDP patron said the diplomatic and other contact channels between the two countries need to be activated to ensure that the situation does not escalate and it returns to normal sooner than later.
