Jammu, Jan 3: The Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Simran-deep Singh today convened a series of meetings in connection with the holding of ‘Digi Dhan Mela’. As a Govt. of India initiative to transform the cash economy of the country into a cashless/digital one, Digi Dhan Melas are being organised in different cities across the country from December 25, 2016.
On January 17, 2017, Digi Dhan Mela is being held in Jammu district under the overall supervision of State organising committee headed by the Chief Secretary. As lead up to this Mela, various contests will be held among different groups. There would be awards for the Best Panchayat, Rural Block, Urban Local Body, Market Association, School, College and Govt. offices. These awards would be given on the day of the Digi Dhan Mela on the basis of initiatives taken for the promotion and adoption of digital payment system.
The DC convened meetings with all the SDMs, Tehsildars, BDOs, CDPOs, Principals of Colleges and Schools and urged upon them to participate in the campaign for cashless transactions. They were asked to take initiatives to popularise digital payments in their respective areas. They were told that their performance would be assessed on the basis of visibility of campaign material and measurable improvement in terms of bank a/c opening, issuance of debit/Rupay cards, ensuring availability of maximum number of POS machines and adopting other cashless ways of payment. They were also encouraged by the Dy Commissioner to conceive any innovative method to ensure visible impact of the campaign.
A special meeting was also held with prominent banks like State Bank of India, J&K Bank, PNB, Canara Bank, ICICI, Axis bank, HDFC etc., seeking their involvement in public awareness, facilitation and training in the use of POS machines, procuring and using various cards for cashless transactions.
During the Digi Dhan Mela, scheduled to be held in the Gulshan Ground on January 17, various stalls will be set up by the prominent banks and Govt offices.
General public has been invited to avail services offered by these banks in connection with Digital modes of payments. Banks, too would be offering on spot opening of accounts, issuance of debit cards, seeding of Aadhar with bank accounts, registration of merchants for POS machines and other services for facilitating cashless payments.
A team of officials dealing with Aadhar enrolment, corrections and seeding of aadhar would also be available for offering their services to the general public who may come alongwith basic documents like identity proof etc. The Mela would culminate with an Award ceremony for conferring incentives on the best performing units. The Award ceremony is expected to be attended by Union Ministers and other dignitaries.
