Different organizations celebrate International Women’s Day

JAMMU, Mar 8: Different organizations here today celebrated International Women’s Day by organizing various programmes.
Sai Shyam College of Education, Ghou Manhasan celebrated International Women’s Day at Government Primary School, Lohri Chak with the women of the area. Lal Singh, Sarpanch of Lohri Chak was the chief guest and the programme began with the welcome address by Dr Usha Tickoo, Principal of the College, who highlighted the importance of women in building a healthy society.
Chenab College of Education in collaboration with the NSS Unit of the College celebrated the International Women’s Day and an inter college debate competition on the topic ‘Is Adoption Better than Surrogacy’ was organized. Poonam Sharma and Sangeeta from Chenab College of Education stood first and second while Priya of Dogra College stood 3rd in the competition.
The International Women’s Day was celebrated by Vimal Muni College of Education, Vijaypur. A function was organized on this occasion in which the students spoke on gender equality, women rights, women education, sexual harassment, child marriage etc.
International Women’s Day was celebrated at IECS Polytechnic, Purkhoo Camp with enthusiasm. A seminar was on the topic ‘Role of Women in Present Scenario’ was organized in which students expressed their views.
Dogra College of Education celebrated International Women’s Day wherein an inter-college symposium and poster making competition was held.
International Women’s Day was celebrated by K.C College of Education wherein an awareness rally and door to door campaign on different women issues was taken out by the students. Accompanied by their teachers, the students during the rally in the nearby locality apprised the people about issues confronting the women.
The college playground of Rajiv Gandhi Memorial College of Education, Kathua was filled with great zeal, excitement as the College celebrated sports event under International Women Week based on the theme ‘Each for Equal.’
International Women Day was celebrated by G.K Education Trust under PMKK at Reasi. On this occasion Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Indu Kanwal Chib was the chief guest and the students presented Dogra dances and a debate competition was also organized to mark the occasion.
Meanwhile, Ruchi Shah, Scientist at SMVDU Katra has stated that there is a lot that is still to be done for women empowerment. She also said that just posting or sharing a post on social media won’t work anymore now and it’s high time that women must realize their rights but at the same time they should also understand their duties too.
On the occasion of International Woman’s Day an interactive session was organized at Sanctorium School, Lalad by Amargad Sopore Army Camp. The event included an informative talk on personal hygiene, various career options, lecture on self defense and various government schemes available for girl child.
District Legal Services Authority Samba organized a programme ‘Bol Sakhi’ to observe International Women’s Day. On this occasion, a ‘Women Talk’ was held for the Lady Judicial Officers, Advocates, staff members, Teachers of various Schools and PLVs of Samba on the topic ‘Women’s Rights-Violence against Women’.
District Legal Services Authority Reasi organized legal awareness camp at Government Degree College Reasi to celebrate International Women’s Day under the chairmanship of Kamlesh Pandit, Chairman District Legal Services Authority.
In connection with International Women’s Day District Legal Services Authority Bhaderwah organized an awareness camp in which Anganwari supervisors, workers, helpers and PLVs participated. The camp was aimed at providing awareness to the people especially the women folk about their rights and duties.
Principal District and Sessions Judge Srinagar, Abdul Rashid Malik highlighted the essence of International Women’s Day. Speaking at a programme organized by District Legal Services Authority Srinagar on the occasion of International Women’s Day, Malik said that women are treading new paths to achieve socio-political and economic empowerment and we all should not only appreciate their endeavors but also help them in achieving equality in real sense of the term.
J&K Grameen Bank celebrated International Women’s Day at its Head Office Narwal and felicitated its women staff by awarding them. On this occasion Bank Chairman, Janak Raj Angural said that women today have got equal potential provided they are trusted and valued.
NABARD J&K celebrated International Women’s Day at Kristu Jyoti Social Welfare Society, Samba. Chief Planning Officer Samba, Sukhleen Kaur was the chief guest on this occasion while BDO Samba, Rupinder Kaur and Medical Superintendent, District Hospital Samba were the guests of honour. The women from SHGs, JLGs and FPOs shared their success stories on this occasion.
On International Women’s Day a 3-day Hyundai Power Women Camp was started at Devika Hyundai workshop, Udhampur to connect with the women customers to give special focus to their car related needs and provide them 360 degree delight experience. The organizers requested all the women customers to participate in the camp to learn basic vehicle maintenance and get benefitted by availing the exciting offers available in the camp organized especially for women empowerment.
Meanwhile, there will be a public felicitation to nonagenarian woman soldier of Netaji’s Rani Jhansi Regiment on International Women’s Day on 8 March. The noted singer, Bulbul-e-Kashmir, Seema Anil Sehgal, popularly hailed as the Peace Singer of India, shall felicitate Rama Mehta, 94, an erstwhile Lieutenant in the Azad Hind Fauj of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose on International Women’s Day.
District Information Centre Ramban organized a debate competition on the topic ‘Women Empowerment’ at National Academy Secondary School, Ramban as a part of weeklong celebration of International Women’s Day.
On International Women Day district administration Samba in collaboration with Department of Agriculture felicitated progressive women farmers and distributed them awards for outstanding works in the field of agriculture.
International Women’s Day was celebrated at Udhampur wherein women bicycle rally to spread out the message of gender equality was flagged off by District Development Commissioner, Dr. Piyush Singla.

Rotary Club of Jammu Midtown celebrated International Women’s Day by honouring Joanamma and Amorosiama of ‘Param Parsad’ Ashram, Akhnoor which rehabilitates wondering and mentally challenged females. Swarn Jamwal, a noted social worker was also honoured and the Club donated ration items to Param Parsad Ashram.
Vigyan Kendra, Jammu celebrated International Women’s Day at its campus in R.S Pura. The programme was organized to honour and encourage the women working in rural areas as well as involved in farming as an income generating activity.
KVK Samba celebrated International Women’s Day under aegis of Directorate of Extension, SKUAST-J. The programme was initiated by Dr. Vinod Gupta, Scientist & Head of KVK Samba with warm welcome of the participants. He stressed that women are playing multi-dimensional roles in agriculture.
Innerwheel Club of Jammu celebrated International Women’s Day at SOS Home Channi Rama amongst the children/Inmates of the SOS home. President of Innerwheel Club, Social Activist Reva, Raina & Secretary, Rattan Prabha asked the members to take pledge on this day that the members of Innerwheel Club will celebrate at least one of their functions at Home for which max members agreed.
J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages in collaboration with Ranjit College of Education, Kunjwani and Ranjit Global School, Kunjwani, organized musical programme at Ranjit College in connection with the celebration of International Women Day.

International Women’s Day was celebrated by the Ladies Battalion (IRP-15th) at the Battalion Headquarters, Gulshan Ground, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu. The programme started with a motivational lecture by Dr. Sunniya Wani, DySP followed by speeches by HC Salma Parveen, Sgct. Mousmi, Ct. Heena Singh, Ct. Tripta Choudhary, Ct. Madhu Devi, Ct. Anju Devi and Ct. Javed Ahmad highlighting the importance of this day. Dr. Shalini Dogra, Gynaecologist at Police Hospital Jammu spoke at length on various health and hygiene issues. Dr. Nazia Rasool Latifi, Asstt. Professor Cluster University, Jammu spoke about the problems women face in the society and suggested various ways and means to tackle the stress at home and workplace. Dr. Manisha Swaroop Kohli, Associate Professor Govt. College for Women Gandhinagar also spoke on the occasion. Those who were honoured with a plaque and certificate included HC Radha Rani, HC Shamshad Begum, HC Manju Bala, HC Nasib Kour, Sgct. Darshana Kumari and Sgct. Khalida Bano.
Speaking on the occasion, Commandant IR-15th Bn, Mubassir Latifi congratulated the lady officers & officials of the Battalion for setting an example of professional Policing and lauded their untiring efforts in maintaining Law & Order in the UT of J&K.
Tawi Welfare Society-a social voluntary organisation celebrated International Women’s Day at Apna Van in Sure Chak where Kavita Pandoh, Block Development Officer and Mukal Mehta, Senior Manager, J&K Grameen Bank were chief guests. On this occasion Kavita Pandoh highlighted the importance of this day and lauded the achievements of the women.
Government HSS Keya Ramnagar celebrated the International Women’s Day wherein the students highlighted the importance of the day through debate and poems.
J&K ICAI celebrated International Women’s Day by organising a programme wherein different speakers talked on essence of women power, gender equality and equal opportunities for women.
On International Women’s Day, CPI (M) leader, M.Y Tarigami said the day not only brings an opportunity to look back on progress made by women in all walks of life but it also calls for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by women and girls around the globe.
On International Women’s Day, Pradesh Mahila Congress organized a rally against women insecurity at Jammu. Pradesh Mahila Congress president and ex-MLA, Indu Pawar presided over the function. The programme was also carried in Samba, Kathua and other districts.
District administration Kishtwar celebrated the International Women’s Day by organizing an impressive programme wherein Nukkad Natak on the theme Beti Bachao Beti Padhao was presented by the students of different schools.
International Women’s Day was celebrated under the theme ‘I am Generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Rights’ at Aryans Group of Colleges, Rajpura, near Chandigarh at its campus. Students and Staff of Aryans Colleges participated in various activities organized at its campus.
Shaheen Trust led by Tasleem Javaid Wani organised a programme on International Women’s Day at Akhyarpur Bhalessa. Around Hundred women participated in the programme wherein president of the Trust, Touseef Ahmed Malik spoke on the rights of women.
International Women’s Day was celebrated at Bandipore where various welfare measures for women were highlighted.
The International Women’s Day was celebrated at Shastri Nagar Jammu by organising an event by Ganesha Taekwondo Academy. The event was started with the introduction of all participant women and it included the self confidence, self defense, moral building which was carried over by Ambika Gupta and Dr. Manpreet Kaur.
NC Women Wing celebrated International Women Day wherein the Provincial NC Women Wing president, Satwant Kour Dogra stressed on female literacy and economic emancipation. Tributes were paid to Madr-e- Mehrban by Provincial President National Conference, Devender Singh Rana.
CEO SMVD Shrine Board felicitated prize winners of sports festival during International Women’s Day celebrations. Ramesh Kumar, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board while speaking on the occasion greeted the participants on the International Women’s Day.
Rotary Club Jammu Tawi celebrated International Women’s Day by honouring 7 eminent ladies from different walks of society. DGP Dilbag Singh was the chief guest on this occasion. Women honoured were Nirmal Sharma, IAS; Nisha Nathyal, SSP; Dr Amandeep Anand, Gynaecologist; Miss Sana Dua, Former Miss India; Mrs Aarti Thakur, SHO Women Cell; Mrs Sapna Jain, Weightlifter and Mrs Isha Jain, Choreographer. Earlier Ashok Kumar Gupta while welcoming the guests said that women are endowed with superior qualities biologically & psychologically. A book ‘Meri Samritya’ written by Veena Tandon was also released by DGP Dilbag Singh.
