MENDHAR, May 26: While the diarrhoea cases in Mendhar Sub Division have crossed 1000 mark in last over one week, a special medical team from Jammu arrived here and picked up some water samples.
BMO Mendhar, Dr Zulfkar disclosed that during last night 35 fresh cases were reported to Sub District Hospital Mendhar while during the day today, l 27 cases of diarrhoea came to the hospital here. So, total 62 cases have been reported in the hospital. On Thursday, around 56 cases were reported to the SDH Mendhar, he said.
Dr Zulfkar further disclosed that till now, the number of such cases reported during the last eight days have gone up to 1000 (one thousand), while total admissions reported during this period, were 486 as per hospital record. He also claimed that medicines, drip sets fluid etc from Jammu reached here on Wednesday evening. The medical staff was working round the clock and attending the patients, he added.
Meanwhile, a Medical team from the Directorate of Health Services, Jammu led by Dr JP Singh arrived Mendhar town here this afternoon. The team visited local hospital, interacted with patients, attendants and some local medical staff. They also visited water sources of PHE department and lifted some samples of water as well. They were not satisfied with the water storage and supply position in the town. They issued some instructions to the PHE staff associated with the water supplies and asked them to take extra precautions.
I/C AEE, PHE Mendhar Abdul Majid said that there are around 150 water storage tanks/ dug wells in the entire Sub Division and Chlorine has been provided to the staff at each station for mixing with the water being supplied. Majid said that he personally paid visit to most of the water stations and was monitoring the supply position.
SDM, Mendhar Rahul Yadav when asked what action was not taken against the PHE staff for leaving the local PHE water testing Lab defunct and throwing out expiry date chemicals outside by staff, he said that he had directed the Executive Engineer PHE Poonch, Qayoom on the spot during his visit to the Lab to take action against the employees for the lapse. He also claimed that there has been some improvement in the situation now.
