Srinagar, Mar 13: A diabetes screening and awareness camp was held today at Gousia Hospital Khanyar, where all OPD patients were examined for diabetes as part of the National Plan for the Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke (NPCDCS).
The camp was organised on the directions of Secretary Health and Medical Education Bhupender Kumar by Director Health Services Kashmir Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Rather in presence of Medical Superintendent Gousia Hospital Dr Tariq Jan and Nodal Officer NPCDCS DHSK Dr Junaid.
Over 550 OPD patients were tested throughout the camp, with 29 being diagnosed with diabetes and 104 having pre-diabetes.
Speaking on the occasion, Director Health Services Kashmir stated that preventive health care is a priority for the health department and that, due to the high burden of noncommunicable diseases, particularly diabetes and hypertension, people need to be made aware of a healthy lifestyle for the prevention of these diseases as well as for preventing deadly complications that arise as a result of uncontrolled noncommunicable diseases.
