SRINAGAR, Mar 17: Residents of Check Ranbir Pora village in Damhal Hanjipora area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district today protested against authorities for failing to rehabilitate them.
The residents assembled at Press Enclave and demanded immediate rehabilitation of the people whose houses were damaged in the landslides.  They said that landslides continue in the area from last 15 days but authorities have failed to take any step for the rehabilitation of the affected population.
They said that at least 50 families have been displaced by the natural calamity as their housed have developed wide cracks due to landslides. To avoid danger the residents are living in makeshift shelters. “The houses have developed cracks and poses a great threat to life,” a resident said.
The protestors demanded permanent rehabilitation to avoid such dangers in the future. “We also demand compensation for our losses. The Government should shift us to another place,” another protestor said.
