JAMMU, Feb 19: Director General (DG), Indian Institute of Mass Communication, K. G. Suresh, called on Minister of State for Education Priya Sethi to discuss modalities for establishment of permanent campus of the Institute in Jammu.
During the meeting, the Minister assured him of Government’s full support towards development and growth of the institution in the State for the benefit of students. She stated that efforts would be made to make IIMC’s Jammu campus a hub for media education in North India.
She further said that an independent community radio station would also be established at IIMC, once the permanent campus is made operational in Jammu.
DG, IIMC apprised the Minister that construction work of boundary wall on the allotted land measuring 122 kanal at Keran in Bantalab is going on in full swing and would be completed in next three months.
He further conveyed that IIMC is planning for short term and refresher courses in media communication for students and working journalists in the State, besides reserving about 15 per cent seats at its campus for students from Northern regions. Besides, IIMC has also nominated two senior journalists, Rahul Jalali and Rakesh Khar as member of the editorial board and Chairman of Admission Commission, 2017-18 respectively, he added.
