KATHUA, Oct 20: Director General Floriculture, Parks & Gardens Jammu, S. Jatinder Singh here today participated in a training cum awareness programme on commercial floriculture for growers and entrepreneurs at village Chhann Morian, Panchayat Chann Khatrian in Block Hiranagar here.
The programme was organized by District Floriculture Officer under ongoing Jan Abhiyan programme.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Sarpanch Sham Singh, Assistant Floriculture Officer, Atul Sharma, Puran Chand and Shamsher Singh.
Speaking of the occasion the Director General deliberated upon various schemes related to commercial floriculture under MIDH, RKVY & ATMA. He urged upon unemployed youths and farmers to register themselves under these schemes and start their own business in flower production, aromatic plant cultivation, ornamental nursery and use of integrated farming for employment and revenue generation.
He informed that under Jan Abhiyan programme, out of a target of 1000 farmers, a total of 735 have got themselves registered with the department in the first four days of the Abhiyan.
A total number of 75 progressive farmers including women farmers attended the training/awareness programme and discussed various issues related to commercial floriculture.
Marigold seedlings were also distributed among all the farmers present in the programme by the department through Director General Floriculture and Sarpanch of the area Sham Singh.
