JAMMU, Nov 1: The women wing of Dogra Front & Shiv Sena (DFSS) under the leadership of its president, Ashok Gupta, today held a protest in Jammu city against the inflated price of vegetables which has reduced the quantity of food in the plate of common man.
The women protesters carried the vegetables on their head expressing their resentment, as these have become luxurious commodity and cannot be carried in their hands.
Addressing the protesting women activists, Ashok Gupta said that soaring prices of essentials and other items have badly affected the common people in the State. The prices of vegetables and other food items have reached an unprecedented high, making impossible for the common people to prepare their monthly budget.
“Roti, Kapda Aur Makaan”, are the basic needs of one’s life but with soaring inflation sadly all three necessities are becoming unaffordable day by day, he said, adding, the worst hit are the housewives, whose monthly budget has gone away due to steep price hike of vegetables and fruit.
Gupta said that the Maharashtra which is the biggest seller of onions, sells onions at Rs 10 per Kg then how in the retail market it is being sold at a price of Rs 50. Who is earning the rest of Rs 40 as a profit, he questioned.
“Few years back, the Government use to have a price mechanism policy”, he said, adding, the Government should initiate the MSP pricing again so that the people can be saved from the inflation. He further stated that a committee should be formed to keep an eye on the inflated prices of the essential commodities and it should be empowered to take action against the Black marketers.
