SRINAGAR, May 18: The Food Safety Wing of the Drugs and Food Control Organization (DFCO) today launched a special inspection drive to check food quality and hygiene at hotels, canteens and Government accommodations housing Darbar Move employees here.
As part of the drive, special teams inspected 14 establishments, including Government Residential Quarters at Sempora and Pampore, TRC Srinagar and several hotels hired by the Estates Department to accommodate employees during the ongoing move period.
Officials said the drive was launched to ensure that employees staying in Government accommodations are provided safe, hygienic and quality food.
For the purpose, teams headed by respective Assistant Commissioners, Food Safety, and comprising Food Safety Officers were constituted to conduct extensive inspections of food establishments and residential facilities leased by the Estates Department.
During the inspections, Food Business Operators (FBOs) engaged by the Estates Department were directed to strictly comply with provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act and Regulations.
Inspecting officers laid special emphasis on maintaining hygiene and sanitation standards prescribed under Schedule 4 of the Food Safety and Standards Regulations.
The operators were also instructed to ensure full compliance with standards laid down under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and provide fresh and hygienic meals to employees.
The inspection teams warned FBOs against the use of synthetic food colours or any unsafe ingredients in prepared food items.
