DFCO disallows operations of 36 drug outlets for non-maintenance of sales records

JAMMU, Jan 9: Drug and Food Control Organization (DFCO) has disallowed operations of 36 retail drug sale establishments across Jammu province for non-maintenance of sales records.
The action was taken by a team of DFCO during a special inspection drive conducted under the direct supervision of Assistant Drugs Controllers of respective districts and overall supervision of Deputy Drugs Controller, Jammu, Mohd Iqbal Palla, to ensure that the pharmaceutical preparations comprising of ‘Habit Forming’ drugs are being stocked/sold in consonance to the prescriptions being raised for licit use only and records of such drugs are being maintained under rules.
During the drive, operations of 13 retail sale outlets were disallowed u/s 22 (d) of Drugs & Cosmetics Act, 1940 in Ramban district, 10 in Poonch, five in Samba, three in Doda, two in Jammu and one each in Kathua, Rajouri and Kishtwar districts.
Also, license of a wholesale pharmaceutical distributor namely M/s Fortune Pharmaceuticals, Rajouri was cancelled as the firm was found involved in procuring habit forming consignments in a clandestine manner from the suppliers based outside J&K without maintaining the distribution records under the set guidelines and rules.
Drug samples of more than 100 fast moving drug formulations of various categories were also drawn from the market for determination of their strength and purity to ensure and affirm that quality and genuine medicines are being made available to the end users.
Moreover, stocks of drugs worth Rs 6300 that were declared to be ‘Not of Standard Quality’ by Government Analyst were also confiscated from the supply chain by the Regulatory Officers of the Organization under Section 23 of the Drugs & Cosmetics Act.
Lotika Khajuria, State Drug Controller, has impressed upon the trade fraternity to install CCTV Cameras in their premises and switch over to computerized system of billing for maintaining of records in the light of guidelines issued in the meetings of NOCORD.
