DFCO conducts special campaign in Rajouri

RAJOURI, Feb 27: Drugs and Food Control Organization, conducted special campaign in Rajouri on the prevention of drug abuse and substance abuse to propagate the message that the Government has adopted zero tolerance policy against this evil.
The awareness programme at Sunderbani/ Rajouri was attended by various sections of the society particularly prominent citizens, students , senior officers of the department, member of Chemists Associations of Sunderbani & Rajouri.
Speaking on the occasion, Irfana Ahmed, Joint Drugs Controller said that such programs definitely help to aware the common masses about the drug abuse which is destroying our future generations. She said it is important to spread awareness among people, especially the youth, against this evil.
Deputy Drugs Controller, Jammu, Mohd Iqbal Palla, informed that this programme was organized in continuation to the Nasha Mukat Bharat Abhiyaan which aims to reach out the masses and spread awareness about drug abuse. He stressed on the participants to keep themselves away from drugs, unhealthy things, and anti-social activities. He said surprise inspections of chemist shops are being conducted to ensure that such pharmaceutical preparations are being stocked for sale in permissible quantities under rules.
SM Tikoo, Dy Drugs Controller I/C Rajouri/Poonch said that menace of drug abuse is the challenge where Government alone cannot succeed unless there is community help, parental assistance and proactive role by all sections of society. He emphasized that since both the formulations which are otherwise drug of choice for patients suffering from severe/critical disease in their pain management have high potential for addiction and respiratory depression when misused and taken in high doses. The stake holders are impressed upon to ensure judicious use of such formulations and maintain complete records.
Archana Mujoo, ADC Jammu briefed the participants about ill effects of drug menace & its effect on society. She informed that the Department has directed all the authorized stockiest dealing with such kind of formulations to strictly restrict sale and distribution of restricted drugs for the legitimate requirements only.
