MAJALTA, Sept 14: With all the tall talk of good governance and inclusive development of the Union and State Govt remaining confined to papers only, the situation on the ground was extremely grim with hardly any initiative taken by the rulers to translate their slogans into reality.
This was stated by NPP chairman and former minister, Harsh Dev Singh while addressing public meeting at Swalta near Majalta in Ramnagar constituency of district Udhampur today. He said that while announcements of funds for developments schemes and creation of infrastructure were repeatedly made in the media, the corresponding delivery on the ground was conspicuously missing thereby, belying the claims of the helmsmen.
Referring to the recent announcement of the Union Home Minister of having hiked the PM’s package to Rs 1,00,000 crore for the State, Singh called upon the State Govt to come out with the details of assets created and expenditure incurred under the initial grant of Rs 80,000 crore. He maintained that with the PM’s Rs 80,000 crore package having been announced in 2015, the people of the State, particularly of Jammu region wanted to know the details of utilization and the corresponding facilities made available to the public.
Pointing towards the pathetic plight of the existing public infrastructure and civic amenities particularly in the rural and remote areas, Singh said that the last three years had witnessed the worst era of under-development and lack of accountability and misrule. He said that with people bearing the brunt of chaotic power scenario and potable drinking water supply, dilapidated shabby roads, chronic shortage of ration and civil supplies, un-implemented social welfare schemes, the public disenchantment with the system was an all time high.
Expressing concern over the development inertia in Ramnagar constituency during the last few years, Harsh Dev cautioned the concerned officers to wake from their slumber and ensure early completion of the development schemes launched during his tenure. He regretted the non- initiation of electrification works approved in 2014 under DDUVVY thus depriving the proposed beneficiaries of the benefits of the said scheme despite lapse of three years.
He deplored the highly dilapidated condition of Majalta Peoni, Thalora-Tajur, Swalta and Sail-Kori roads which had been rendered un-trafficable for the last several months.
