This has reference to the Action Please write up ‘Detach Kandi Belt from Basohli constituency’ by Shiv Kumar Padha.
It is very heartening, as truly brought out by the writer that a considerable portion of Kathua Tehsil has been affiliated with Basohli Assembly constituency with the sole motive to create solid vote bank pocket for the powerful leaders belonging to Kathua. The area affiliated has neither cultural nor any geographical bonding with Basohli Tehsil as such, it comprises nearly 1/4th out of approximately 80000 registered voters of constituency which over the years in consequent elections has always tilted the balance in favour of Kathua based leaders. The political leadership has always ignored the aspirations of the people of Basohli Tehsil and inspite of this being most peaceful region of the state, basic democratic aspects such as inclusive development, participatory democracy and empowerment of people till date remain a distant dream for the masses of the mainland Basohli. It is high time that top leadership of the State listen to the voice of people of Basohli and address this anomaly at earliest possible.
