Despite sub-zero temp, anti-militancy ops continue in Kashmir

SRINAGAR: Braving sub zero temperature, security forces launched a massive search operation on early Monday morning in the north Kashmir district of Bandipora, official sources said. Sources said that on a tip-off about the presence of militants, Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint search operation in several villages in Bandipora.
Security forces, deployed in strength, have sealed all exit points and started search operation, they said, adding that so far no one has been arrested. Male members were asked to come out their houses and their identity cards checked.
They said additional security forces have been deployed outside the cordoned off areas to prevent any demonstration.
Last week, a similar search operation was conducted in the district during which security forces had to burst teargas shells and resorted to lathicharge to disperse the demonstrators who were trying to disrupt the operation.
Intelligence reports said that some foreign militants are hiding in the district, particularly in Hajin and adjoining areas. (AGENCIES)
