SRINAGAR : Braving rain and other odds, fresh batches of pilgrims left Baltal and Nunwan Pahalgam base camps for the holy Amarnath Cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas, where 2.72 lakh yatris had paid obeisance since the commencement of the 59-day-long pilgrimage since July 2.
The pilgrimage was going on smoothly despite rain and cold weather condition, a yatra official said, adding that fresh batches of pilgrims, including women, children and sadhus, left base camps for the cave shrine amidst singing hymns and Bam Bam Bolay and Har Har Mahadev.
He said 9,128 pilgrims paid obeisance at the cave shrine at 13,500 feet above sea level in Kashmir Himalayas yesterday. Majority of these pilgrims had returned to Baltal base camp from shortest 16 km track while some had night halt near shrine.
With this, a total of 2,71,486 yatris had darshan of the self made Ice-Shivlingam at the cave shrine since July 2 when the yatra was commenced from both shortest Baltal and traditional Pahalgam tracks.
He said more than 1,000 yatris, including women, sadhus and children, left Baltal base camp early this morning for the cave shrine. The pilgrims are expected to reach there by this afternoon after covering the distance on foot.
Similarly, fresh batch of yatris left Nunwan Pahalgam base camp for the cave shrine through traditional 45-km-long traditional track. However, some of the pilgrims will have night halt at Chandanwari, the last motorable halting station on this track.
He said pilgrims, who had night halt at Chandanwari and other halting stations, also started their journey towards the cave shrine this morning. (AGENCIES)
