Design awareness seminar on Plywood Industry held

JAMMU, May 13:  A seminar on design awareness for Plywood Industry was organized by PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry in association with National Institute of Design   at Entrepreneurship Development Institute, (EDI) here today.
“Innovation and cost pruning hold the key to meeting the global challenge of rising demand from developed countries and competition from other emerging economies”, said Virinder Sharma, Director, MSME Development Institute  while emphasizing the significance of design thinking and innovation for the plywood industry.
Mr Sharma, who was  chief guest on the occasion extended all help from the MSME Development Institute  for promotion of cluster of ply wood in Jammu.
Prof L K Das from IIT, Delhi gave a detailed presentation about the evolution of design process and how one can benefit from it. In his presentation, he described in detail about the various components of the Design Clinic Scheme and how a ply wood unit  or association can avail its benefit with minimal efforts.
Prof V K Dogra, from the School of Architecture & Landscape Design, Mata Vaishno Devi University, Jammu highlighted that the MSMEs can add value to products, services, and in the process to their firms.  He said design thinking and innovation enables a firm to improve/diversify products for everyday use, leading to reduced costs, increased utility and acceptability.
Vikrant Kuthiala, Chairman PHD Chamber in his welcome address said that with growing access to better technology, industries are increasingly competing at equal price and functionality.
Representing the Ply Wood Association, Jammu, Kuldeep Gupta, president, also addressed the gathering that comprised of around 35 representatives from the Plywood Industry in Jammu.
