SRINAGAR, Aug 22 : A deputation led by Moulvi Muzaffar, Imam and Khateeb of the Baba Shukurudin Shrine, Watlab, Sopore, called on N N Vohra, Governor, at Raj Bhavan here today.
The demands presented by the deputation to the Governor included upgradation and blacktopping of road from Sangri Top to Baba Shukurudin Shrine, augmentation of water supply and provision of uninterrupted power supply to the shrine and, besides, creation of infrastructure for the promotion of tourism in the area.
The Governor gave a patient hearing to the deputationists and assured that he would address the concerned authorities for the urgent resolution of the difficulties faced by the very large number of visitors to this centuries old shrine.
Sister Jyoti Thomas, Principal, Presentation Convent Higher Secondary School, Rajbagh, Srinagar, also called on Mr. Vohra and presented to him a memorandum of demands. She was accompanied by Sister Regi, Vice Principal of the School.
In the memorandum, Sister Thomas urged the relocation of the bridge which is proposed to be constructed over Jhelum near the School. The Governor has asked A. H. Samoon, Divisional Commissioner (Kashmir) to afford an urgent hearing to the Principal of the School, for a viable resolution of the problem.
