JAMMU, Nov 7: The Income Tax Department today bade farewell to Gurpreet Singh, the Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Amritsar, who superannuated after completing an illustrious service of 35 years in Indian Revenue Service (IRS).
In a function organised at Aayakar Bhawan, here the officers and staff of Income Tax Department working in Jammu and Kashmir eulogized the role of Gurpreet Singh in guiding and providing a harassment free administration to the tax payers of Jammu & Kashmir.
Gurpreet Singh, joined services in the year 1979 and after training at Mussoorie he was posted as Income Tax Officer at Delhi in Estates Duty Department. He had a chequered career and during his service, he served in various capacity as ITO/ACIT/DCIT/JCIT and CIT till his elevation to the rank of Chief Commissioner of Income Tax at Shimla. He joined as Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Amritsar which has jurisdiction over Bathinda, Amritsar and Jammu & Kashmir in June, 2013 and served in the same position till his superannuation.
Speaking at the occasion, A. K. Thatai, Commissioner of Income Tax, J&K praised him for his qualities of head and heart and for providing able guidance. During his time, the Income Tax Department at J&K not only achieved all targets assigned to it but had exceeded them.
Thatai praised him for his fair and judicious approach to every issue. Others who spoke on the occasion included Rohit Mehra, JCIT, Range, Jammu, Mini Chandran U., DCIT (HQ), R. K. Kakar, JCIT, New Delhi, Vikram Garg, President, NIRC, Jammu Chapter, Sat Mehta, President, Income Tax Bar Association, R. K. Gupta, CA on behalf of J&K Bank, Mushtaq Meer, representative of Income Tax Practioners Association, Kashmir.
Gurpreet Singh in reply to the farewell addresses by various speakers praised Income Tax Department, J&K and the role played by them and the hard work put in for achieving the targets. Rahul Padha, ACIT, Jammu presented voted thanks.
