Two arrested for not informing police

JAMMU, Aug 27: Six people including five members of a family, who were found dead inside two houses here 10 days ago, have died of overdose of drugs which they decided to administer to end their lives. However, a health worker and a plumber were arrested for not informing the police on time to save the lives.
This was informed by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu Chandan Kohli while interacting with media persons here today.
The said that Noor-ul-Habib is believed to have motivated the family of five–an elderly woman, her two daughters, a specially abled son and a grandson to commit suicide as both the families were under depression due to various pending court cases and medical condition.
“However, he said two persons–a health worker and a plumber by profession–were arrested for not informing police on time which could have saved their lives”, he added.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by SP Rural Jammu Sanjay Sharma and comprising of SDPO Nagrota Pardeep Kumar, SHO Nagrota Inspector Vishav Pratap Singh and Incharge Police Post Sidhra SI Majid Hussain which was formed to crack the mysterious death of the six persons at Tawi Vihar locality of Sidhra on August 17 worked hard and did professional investigation to deal with such a challenging case, SSP Chandan Kohli said while lauding the efforts of the SIT.
“As per our investigation, Habib moved to Jammu in 1997 and was helping financially her next door neighbour Sakeena who was working as a domestic help at his home. Sakeena, originally hailing from Doda district, was facing several court cases and two of her children were specially abled,” Kohli said.
Appearing in one of the cases in the first week of August, the officer said Habib who was also himself facing several litigations motivated Sakeena, her daughter Rubeena and grandson Sajad Ali to end their lives.
SSP said that police recovered the bodies of the four from the house of Habib on August 17, while two more bodies of Sakeena’s disabled children Zaffar Salim and Naseema were recovered from their house after Habib’s sister Shahzada, a resident of Srinagar, informed police that he is not picking up the phone.
“The bodies were removed to GMC hospital where autopsy was done by a board of doctors in presence of a magistrate and the whole process was videographed. The viscera samples were sent for chemical examination in the Forensic Science Laboratory,” SSP said, adding that the final autopsy and FSL reports are still awaited.
Quoting the investigation during which the police recovered the CCTV footage, call recording and bank details, SSP Chandan Kohli said that both the disabled children were the first to die of the drug overdose on August 12, followed by Sakeena on August 14 and the remaining on August 15.
“They started working on their plan on August 5, by bringing cannulas, drips and medicines from chemist shops and deactivating the CCTV the next day”, Kohli said, adding that the services of health worker Sanjeev Kumar, known to Habib, was utilized to fix cannulas on all the persons, while a plumber, Vijay Kumar was paid Rs 2.50 lakh by Habib to dig a pit in the house of Sakeena.
The SSP said both the health worker and the plumber were arrested for not informing the police on time and most of the money paid to Vijay was also recovered.
He said Habib along with Rubeena and Ali visited the city for buying medicines and also ordered food on August 14 and also called Sanjeev in the evening.
However, further investigation is going on, SSP Jammu Chandan Kohli asserted.
