Deported from Qatar, OGW arrested at IGI Airport

Srinagar, Feb 5: Police today arrested an Over Ground Worker (OGW) of Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) from Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in New Delhi after he was deported from Qatar.
Inspector General of Police Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, said that Muneeb Sofi from Bijbehara area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district was working for Pakistani militant, Waleed Bhai who was killed in an encounter at Kulgam last year.
“Kulgam police arrested a wanted top OGW of JeM outfit Munib Sofi of Bijbehara from Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi who was deported today from Qatar. He was working for Pakistani terrorist Waleed Bhai who was killed in an encounter at Kulgam last year,” he said.
He said that Muneeb Ahmad Sofi was involved in case FIR No. 58/2020 u/s 13,18,19,38,39 ULA (P) of PS Devsar regarding collection of funds for militant outfit JeM.
“During the course of investigation of the said case, one terrorist associate was arrested who revealed that he along with other militant associates were collecting money from various districts in Kashmir valley for proscribed out JeM. Thereafter the collected amount was handed over to Muneeb Ahmad Sofi who was staying in Qatar and was in contact with a Pakistan based terrorist Waleed Bhai for purchasing of arms and ammunition from Pakistan. It is pertinent to mention here that terrorist Waleed Bhai linked with proscribed terror outfit JeM was eliminated in an encounter at Kulgam last year,” he said.
He added a look out notice was published against Muneeb Ahmad Sofi and a non-bailable warrant u/s 25 Police Act was obtained from the concerned court. Consequent upon the deportation of the said accused from Qatar to India, he was arrested at IGI Airport New Delhi.
In the meantime, Bandipora police today arrested three militant associates of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant outfit and recovered arms and ammunition from their possession in Hajin area of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
Police said that acting on specific inputs, Bandipora police along with 13 RR of Army and 45 battalion of CRPF apprehended three suspected militant associates of LeT in a joint operation at Rakhi Hajin and recovered arms, ammunition from their possession which include three live hand grenades, one AK-47 magazine and 21 live rounds of AK 47.
Police said that on preliminary enquiry, it was revealed that the accused were associated with LeT outfit and were providing shelter, logistics and other material support to active militants of LeT in Sumbal and Hajin areas.
The arrested militant associates have been identified as Bashir Ahmed Mir son of Abdul Ahad Mir of Rakhi Hajin, Irfan Ahmad Bhat alias Ifa, son of Ghulam Ahmad Bhat of Bonikhan Mohalla Hajin and Hilal Ahmad Parray, son of Ghulam Mustaffa Parray of Parray Mohalla Hajin.
A case (under FIR number 10/2021) under relevant sections of law was registered and investigation initiated.
