JAMMU, Jan 3: Department of Posts (DoP), J&K Postal Circle today rolled out project DARPAN (Digital Advancement of Rural Post Office for a New India) in branch post offices of Kathua, Miran Sahib and Akhnoor areas.
Dr Mandeep K Bhandari, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, who was the chief guest on the occasion, rolled out the project in the presence of Chief Postmaster General, J&K Circle, Sanjay Sharan, other senior officers and distinguished guests.
Speaking on the occasion, Sanjay Sharan informed the gathering about the DARPAN project which is aimed to improve the quality of service, add value to services and achieve ‘financial inclusion’ of unbanked rural population while also taking advantage to the opportunity to increase rural business.
This is done by providing each Branch Postmaster with low power technology solution (ICT) device to allow branch post offices to offer online financial transaction. He further stated that, as on date, 416 branch post offices have been rolled out in Srinagar, Jammu and Udhampur postal divisions.
The Chief Postmaster General also acknowledged the support extended by the speed post and parcel customers which include Government Departments, PSUs, Banks, Businessmen, etc for using Speed Post and Parcel services offered by DoP for their mailing requirements and expressed hope that many more customers will decide to use the fast, economical and reliable mailing solutions provided by DoP.
Meanwhile, Dr Mandeep K Bhandari also felicitated the Speed Post and Parcel Customers of DoP and expressed his happiness on various efforts being made by DoP to diversify its services offerings and to come out with technologically innovative products and services to serve the rural population in particulars and the nation as a whole.
HK Verma, Chief General Manager, BSNL also addressed on the occasion and conveyed his best wishes for the success of DARPAN project and hoped that the department will continue to provide excellent services to the common public.
