Scores of students assembled at Partap Park here to protests against the inaction of the authorities over the allegations of harassment against the HoD. The students were carrying placards, reading “we want to feel safe, is that asking for too much?” and “we are hopeful for the justice”. They shouted slogans against the college administration and demanded removal of the HoD.
The Post Graduate students of the Orthodontics department of the hospital are protesting against the Head of the Department, Dr Mushtaq, who is also their guide, for allegedly forcing the students to do menial jobs. “Our HoD forces us to do every menial work like washing his car, buying household items and picking his family from airport. We also have to ferry his kids to school,” Dr. Rameez Hassan, a Post Graduate student said, adding we were demanding removal of the HoD.
The protestors said they have been protesting against the behavior of the Professor for over two months from January 4 and several fake promises were made to them. “We called off the protest when Principal assured us that action will be taken but nothing has happened till now. We were told that action will be taken in seven days,” a protestor said.
The protestors lamented that so far only probes have been ordered and they are unable to fathom the reasons behind this inaction. “Probes have been ordered and reports have been submitted. But no action has been initiated against anyone. We fail to understand the reasons behind this delay in action. We will intensify protests if authorities fail to meet our demands,” a protestor said.
The protestors informed that two months back Minister of State for Health and Medical Education Asiea Naqash visited the campus and assured that action would be taken against the accused. “She was shocked to hear our ordeal and assured that action will be taken,” a protester said.
